The challenge of trauma is part of a series of talks which feature our expert health professionals. This talk was delivered in collaboration with Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (OUH) to our members and the public. The talk was held on 13 December from 6:30 pm at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford. CPR demonstrations were available in the foyer alongside Oxfordshire Healthwatch and the opportunity to meet SCAS and OUH staff and governors.
The speakers explored the need for coordinated multidisciplinary care, delivered to tight timelines, in a resource limited environment. Patients can present a wide and complex range of problems from multiple injuries in the young to disabling injuries in the elderly, with increasing multiple injuries in older patients. Most patients will require a varied team of professionals to manage their care immediately from the time of injury and will need pre-hospital, emergency department and definitive care. This speakers outlined the achievements, limitations and aspirations of trauma care.
Speakers:
- Mark Ainsworth-Smith, Consultant Pre-Hospital Care Practitioner, South Central Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust
