Speakers

 Esther Kuku, Director of Communications and Engagement, Resuscitation Council UK

Esther leads the Communications and Engagement Team at Resuscitation Council UK. She has responsibility for the development of marketing, communications and stakeholder engagement strategy in relation to all key areas of resuscitation and the organisation’s Vision to 2030 and strategic plan. Esther is Chartered PR practitioner and former national broadcast journalist.  She has spent the last 20 years working in the health communications sector for the NHS and leading not for profit organisations; advising on campaigning, political strategy, policy positioning, media relations, internal communications and stakeholder engagement. In addition to her healthcare experience, she has a solid communications background in international development, having started her communications career in this field.

Samina Kiyani, Media Professional and resuscitation champion.

Samina Kiyani is a media professional with over 30 years of experience in the TV industry. As someone with South Asian heritage, she advocates for diversity and representation in media. Additionally, Samina is passionate about raising awareness of CPR and defibrillation training in underserved communities in the UK, aiming to empower those who may otherwise lack access to vital healthcare education and resources. In partnership with Resuscitation Council UK and St John Ambulance, she has organised training sessions at the East London Mosque in October 2023.

Professor Charles Deakin, Divisional Medical Director, SCAS

Professor Charles Deakin is Divisional Medical Director for South Central Ambulance Service and a consultant in cardiac anesthesia and intensive care at University Hospital Southampton. He is also Honorary Professor of Resuscitation and Prehospital Emergency Medicine at Southampton University where his main academic interests are cardiac arrest, resuscitation and defibrillation. Charles is a lead author for paramedic, UK and European resuscitation guidelines and is a Trustee of the Resuscitation Council UK.

Louise Walker, KAM.

• Professional Nurse registrant of the Nursing and Midwifery Council
• Vice Chair of the National Ambulance Service Responder Managers’ Group (NASRMG)

Louise was honoured to receive the Kings Ambulance Medal (KAM), from the Princess Royal, for distinguished ambulance service. Qualified Nurse, RCUK instructor and Advanced Paediatric Life Support instructor, Louise teaches life support courses at Southampton University NHS Foundation Trust and works clinically for the Isle of Wight NHS Foundation Trust. With over twenty years’ experience in adult and paediatric nursing, and ten years in leadership for the NHS, Louise plays an active part in the ambulance senior management team and oversees ambulance training and education. She also leads on Community First Responder and Public Access Defibrillator schemes, as well as ambulance service engagement strategies.  Louise is the Vice Chair of the National Ambulance Service Responder Managers’ Group, developing national governance frameworks for Community First Responders and Public Access Defibrillators, as well as advising NHS England and all-party parliamentary groups.
