We are delighted to announce that, following a comprehensive recruitment process, we have appointed Duncan Robertson to the new role of Chief Paramedic.

Duncan will join us, initially on a 12-month secondment, from his role as Assistant Director for Clinical Development at the Welsh Ambulance Service University Trust (WAST).
Duncan’s career started in 1998 as an Ambulance Technician in Manchester, and he qualified as a Paramedic in 2001. He has held multiple clinical roles across ambulance services in both England and Wales including: Training, Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMs), Advanced Paramedic, Consultant Paramedic and regional clinical lead.
As an assistant director, Duncan has held a diverse clinical portfolio, including clinical audit and intelligence, urgent care, clinical improvement, medicines management and has worked closely with executive colleagues and WAST’s Executive Director of Paramedicine.  He is involved in research and is currently co-editing a book covering the emergency and urgent care of the older person.

While in his posts in WAST he has led on the implementation of the trust’s first electronic Patient Clinical Record (ePCR) and led a rotation of Advanced Paramedic Practitioners into Primary Care. He understands the importance of using data to shape service delivery and provide assurance on the quality of care being delivered every day.

Duncan is a proud paramedic and maintains clinical skills through operational shifts and providing on-call senior clinical advice. He is passionate, dedicated and committed to developing his profession and improving patient care.

Duncan said: “This is an incredible opportunity, and it is fantastic to see board level positions opening up for paramedics. I have already met a number of the SCAS team and have been impressed with their enthusiasm and commitment and I am really looking forward to being part of the team.”

Duncan will join us in the Autumn of 2024, and we look forward to welcoming him to SCAS.
