With over 50,000 knife crime incidents a year in the UK, there may be a chance that you might come across a patient who requires help after being injured.

Key Points:
- Call 999 quickly and give the most accurate location possible.
- Do not remove the weapon if it is still in situ
- Apply pressure directly over the wound
- If bleeding is squirting out then you may also need to apply pressure further up the limb
- Help the patient into the recovery position if they lose consciousness but continue to stem the bleeding
- Begin CPR if they stop breathing but continue to stem the bleeding
