On Saturday 25 May the Emergency Services Day Community Engagement Event, organised by SCAS Governor Chas McGill and Andy Headley, was held at Gang Warily Recreation Ground near Fawley.

Nursling Team Leader, Dan Friend, organised a group of over 25 SCAS staff and volunteers and 12 vehicles to attend, including the Hazardous Area Response Team (HART), Community Responder (CFRs), the Mental Health Rapid Response Vehicle (RRV) team, 999, the Adult Critical Care Transfer Team and SCAS Ted.

David Eltringham also visited SCAS Ted and practiced his CPR skills on our training mannequins.

Working with our colleagues from Hampshire Fire and Rescue, Nursling Clinical Team Educator, Kimberley Collins arranged a live demonstration of a water incident. The Fire Service personnel ‘rescued’ somebody from the lake in the park and then SCAS staff members, with a little help from SCAS Ted, ran a resus scenario once the patient was back on dry land.

Dan Friend said, “It was great to see so many SCAS members willing to give up a Saturday to spend time here and I feel thanks are deserved for that. It is important for us to reach out to the community and give our best showing. This year is the best presence was have had and the reception from the public was fantastic! The day was well attended and people enjoyed the wide variety of things to see from SCAS with the Simbulance and other vehicles, the CPR stations, the airway station and the live scenario. An all-round fantastic day and I look forward to next year ”
