Six-year-old Charlie Ware from Wallingford, Oxfordshire, has been presented with a special bravery certificate after he had to call 999 in November 2023 when his Mum collapsed at home.

Charlie was at home with his Mum, Victoria, and two younger siblings when she became unconscious. Charlie immediately called 999 and was able to give his full address, Mum’s age and answer all the questions from trainee emergency call taker, Bryony Woodhead, who was supported on the call by colleague, Ellie Atkins. Charlie was able to continue to follow the instructions he was given to get the front door open for the ambulance crew when they arrived at the family’s home.

Bryony, Ellie and SCAS mascot, 999 Ted, were delighted to meet up with Charlie on Friday, 12 January, at Wallingford Community Hospital and present him with a very well-deserved Super Special Bravery Award.
